The Adisadel College 2002 year group has begun work on its Clean Water Hub legacy project with a sod-cutting ceremony to address the school’s longstanding water supply challenges and provide a reliable and sustainable source of water for the campus community. The ceremony, held on the school’s premises last Friday, marks the commencement of the project, which is expected to produce up to 540 cubic metres of water daily to serve an estimated 5,000 students, teachers and other residents on campus. Valued at approximately GH¢4.6 million, the project is expected to be completed by February 2027 and formally handed over to the school in March 2027 as part of activities marking its 117th Anniversary and Speech and Prize-Giving Day. For more than three decades, students, teachers and staff have faced recurring difficulties accessing reliable water, making the initiative a significant intervention in improving campus infrastructure, sanitation and general welfare. The project will involve groundwater extraction, treatment through a multi-stage filtration system and storage in underground and elevated reservoirs before distribution through a reticulation network serving the Upper School, Lower School and Teachers’ Flats. Headmaster of Adisadel College, Samuel Agudogu, described the initiative as timely and said the school looked forward to its completion. He called on parents and staff to support the project and, on behalf of the staff, pledged GH¢10,000 towards its implementation. President of Santa 2G2, Clint Yoosi Boa-Amponsem, appealed to Santaclausians at home and abroad, parents, well-wishers and corporate organisations to contribute towards the project. He said the initiative was intended to address a longstanding challenge on campus and leave a sustainable legacy for present and future generations of students. Representing the Adisadel Old Boys Association (AOBA), Ghana, Patrick Smith-Assan described the water project as transformational and urged stakeholders to rally behind the year group’s efforts to ensure its successful completion. The Clean Water Hub is expected to strengthen the school’s capacity to meet its daily water requirements, reduce the difficulties associated with unreliable supply and improve conditions for teaching, learning and residential life. Beyond addressing an immediate infrastructure deficit, the project represents an investment in public health, sanitation and the long-term sustainability of the school environment. Its successful delivery, however, will depend on sustained financial support, effective project execution and a maintenance framework to ensure that the infrastructure continues to serve the school long after its handover.
