Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya says she will provide an update on the water situation in Bronkhorstspruit on Wednesday. She says Rand Water is working around the clock to ensure that clean and safe drinking water is restored to residents of the area as soon as possible. More than 400 people have been treated for gastrointestinal illness after drinking water that the City of Tshwane failed to chlorinate adequately. Residents are demanding that the water issue be resolved as soon as possible, saying that they refuse to cast their ballots. “Rand Water has given us a date of 30 October to finish the work we are doing, but we are saying we don’t want to put pressure on Rand Water. We don’t want to say 30 October or nothing, because what we have agreed with them is that when the water finally flows into the taps, it must be clean and safe to drink,” says Moya. “So, for now around Wednesday, we will give an update as to what does that 30 October that Rand Water has asked for in terms of the work that is happening with raw water, but also in terms of the reservoirs and the network leading to houses. There is a lot of work there to clean the network,” she adds. Meanwhile, Moya has accused tanker drivers of deviating from the schedule set to deliver water to residents of areas including Bronkhorstspruit, whose water supplies are contaminated. There have been complaints of tankers not reaching communities, with long queues forming of people waiting for water. This comes after hundreds of people were hospitalised for consuming contaminated water. Water Crisis | DWS opens criminal case against City of Tshwane: Dr Sean Phillips
