The fifth edition of the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament will be held on November 21, 2026, at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra, with President John Dramani Mahama expected to grace the occasion. The announcement was made at the official launch of the tournament on Wednesday, November 4, at the Achimota Golf Club House, where sponsors, corporate partners, club officials, stakeholders and media representatives gathered to unveil plans for this year’s competition. The tournament, held in honour of President Mahama, will bring together 140 selected amateur golfers, including international participants from Nigeria, Burundi and Kenya. Under the theme, “Driving National Growth Through Leadership, Partnership and Golf,” this year’s event seeks to strengthen the relationship between sport, business and national development by creating opportunities for networking, dialogue and strategic partnerships. Speaking at the launch, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Francis Andoh, welcomed participants and expressed appreciation to the sponsors and partners whose support has sustained the tournament over the years. He said the theme reflected the organisers’ belief in the ability of sport to unite people, build lasting relationships and inspire initiatives that contribute to national progress. Mr Andoh also highlighted the broader social impact of the initiative, explaining that the tournament’s vision extends beyond the golf course. Through the Head of State Foundation, he said, the organisers are committed to supporting community outreach programmes and creating opportunities for young people through golf. “Our commitment extends beyond the course. Through the Head of State Foundation, we seek to support community outreach and create opportunities for young people through golf. We invite our partners and participants to help turn this commitment into meaningful support for those who need it,” he stated. Captain of the Achimota Golf Club, George Yaw Amoah, expressed gratitude to the organising committee for continually selecting the club as the venue for the prestigious competition. He said the club was honoured to be associated with an initiative that brings together influential personalities and provides a platform for strengthening relationships through golf. Also addressing the gathering, Mike Aggrey, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Achimota Golf Club and General Secretary of the African Golf Confederation, traced the origins of the tournament to 2017. According to him, the initiative was established to bring together corporate executives, business leaders and captains of Ghanaian industry in an informal setting to exchange ideas on the country’s economic, social and political development. He explained that golf was deliberately chosen because it provides a relaxed environment where influential personalities can interact beyond the formalities and bureaucracies of conventional business engagements. “The tournament started way back in 2017, and it was an event initiated basically to bring together leaders, corporate business captains and Ghanaian industry players to discuss how our nation, Ghana, can progress in terms of economic, social and political development,” he said. Mr Aggrey noted that the tournament began at Achimota before expanding to Kumasi, describing its growth over the years as a reflection of the enduring vision behind the initiative. First National Bank is the headline sponsor of the fifth edition, with BOST Energies supporting the event as Gold Sponsor. Other sponsors and partners include Samsung Ghana, The Luckiest, Myla Homes, National Petroleum Authority, Danny List Foundation, Aphro Ghana, Coca-Cola Ghana, Guinness Ghana, Pasonia, La Villa Aphro, Happy Box, TGTS, Ember Coco, Sunlodge, JD’s Fresh Juice, The Palms by Eagles, Gevans Natural Minerals Water and Nguvu Mining Limited. Beyond the competition for honours on the golf course, the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament aims to use sport as a platform for building relationships between government, business and society. With 140 selected amateur golfers and international participation from three African countries, the November 21 event is expected to showcase golfing talent while providing opportunities for networking and collaboration. The anticipated presence of President Mahama is also expected to add significance to the occasion, as organisers seek to reinforce the tournament’s central message of leadership, friendship, partnership and national growth. As preparations continue, the fifth edition is expected to further strengthen the tournament’s position as a platform where sporting excellence meets corporate engagement and the broader aspirations of national development.
